Mermaids

So many people hear the word mermaid, and think Disney's Little mermaid. And others think evil. When I think mermaid, I think they are a mirror image of what you put out to the world.

Yes, mermaids are real. You can connect with them, feel their presence, and can even pretend to be a mermaid. Lots of little girls have played mermaid in the bath or pool. It's that innocence, before you're told what's real and what's not that makes EVERYTHING REAL!

Mermaids have a long history of luring men into dangerous waters, or even convincing them by their song, to jump off the boat to their death. However some were able to keep their lives. Like Ulysses, he followed advice and plugged his ears and bound himself to the mast of his ship to safely sail past the mermaids.

I strongly believe that your integrity has a lot to do with how and why mermaids may lead you to your death. The good hearted, honest, men were able to slip past the mermaids and use crafty measures saved their own lives. Those who were dishonest, and had heavy hearts of deceit and lies, could not find a way to detour the mermaids song, and ultimately met their death.

The mermaid is much like your trials in this world, and the ocean is your life. How you deal with the mermaids (trials) will determine many outcomes in your life (oceans).  The lure of a mermaid is magical in itself. They're beautiful, mysterious, and elusive. So many of your trials in this life are the same way. No matter if they're good or bad trials, all trials are beautiful and mysterious.

"A mermaid found a swimming lad,
Picked him for her own,
Pressed her body to his body,
Laughed; and plunging down
Forgot in cruel happiness
That even lovers drown."

Dragons...

Dragons.  What do you know about them?  Like most people you probably only know what you've heard in fairytales.  There's more to them then just what has been put into the stories that we read to our children.

Dragon came from the Latin word draconem meaning "huge serpent". They have been part of mythology forever.  They have even made appearances in Jewish religion texts (in the books of Job and Isaiah). For the most part, dragons are portrayed as fierce, fire-breathing, lizard-like, scaly creatures that the knight in shining armor defeats to save the damsel in distress.  Or portrayed as recluses, living in caves in remote regions and guarding treasures.  Treasures that whomever slayed said dragon would gain when the dragon was dead. Think of Beowulf, he died fighting a treasure-guarding dragon according to stories.

As late as the 17th century dragons were still being written about as if they existed. In many ways they could still exist today if you look at it.  Crocodiles, iguanas, and other lizards are about as close as you're going to get with out actually getting a dragon itself.

Dragons have become symbols for various cultures and religions over the centuries.  Some people such as myself really connect with dragons and see them as a totem.

My personal experience with the dragon that is my guide and totem has been profound! Being that I'm totally connected to the element of fire, it's not surprising in the least that a dragon has been my guide - a red dragon at that!  He's helped guide me when I've asked for guidance, he's been the one that I've used to help draw energy when I need it while doing meditation, rituals, readings, energy work, etc. You never know what or when your guide is going to show their heads and make themselves known to you.  Do you have a guide or totem?

I don't remember exactly where I found this picture but change the girl's hair to red and this is how I feel with my dragon.

Divination

What is it? How does it work? Why do we do it?
Honestly, divination is just your intuition coming forth through tools you choose to use. Choosing a tool (runes, tarot, sea shells, fire, scrying mirrors, oracles, etc.) is completely up to you and how and why you connect with it. Most divination is based on a feeling, a flutter or a twinge deep in your gut that tells you, "Yup, you pegged this one dead on!" That's not to say it doesn't take practice! Sometimes it takes years of practice! Meditation is a form or divination too, as you delve into yourself for answers. Seeking the Divine to help you meditate is a huge tool.
How it works is basically dependent up on what tool you choose. For me personally, I align with the water element, so anything that's water related will attune to me. I use oracle cards, by Doreen Virtue, that are dolphin and mermaids. I have sea shell runes, that I made and put up on Etsy that have an amazing feel to them. It's so much more personal than I can explain to you. No two people are going to be able to feel the exact same and intuit the exact same things using the same form of divination. Each individual person will have their own interpretation and take on anything and everything.
We do it because it's fun! Seriously, connecting with the Divine, and using our divination tools are is fun! I thoroughly enjoy using my cards! I am branching out now from oracle to Tarot, and would love to do water scrying, etc. Not everyone will be able to use all forms of divination. It's just about branching out and trying it. If it works for you then HAVE FUN with it. If it doesn't, then you know you tried something new, and either way. . . you learned something!
